Take a look at the wall-clock in your room, or the wristwatch on your wrist, what do you see? Let me guess, a long hand moving, consistently by the second? It never stops, and it is the tool in which time is measured by.
What if you had looked at the clock and noticed that it wasn't ticking, and the long hand of the clock wasn't moving? What comes to your mind? Yes, the clock isn't working, and do you know the funny thing? Even when the clock in your room isn't working, time still never stops.
The same way, if you stop working, if you stop taking action, time never stops. Life is measured in time, time never stops, which means life never stops, regardless of whether you're taking action or not.
Life never stops, regardless of whether you're taking action or not.
The day I discovered this is the day I decided to never be caught doing nothing, because it'd mean that I'd become like the wall clock in my room, and be stuck in one spot even though time and life have gone ahead.
The element in which life is measured is time. Joking with your time, messing with it, just cruising and not taking action is a big mistake, a big disservice to yourself, and to the kind of life that I am certain you want for yourself.
Not taking action means not working, not working means, like the hand of the clock, you're not moving, and not moving means that you are behind.
What does this tell you? Stagnancy? Nah, being stagnant is a myth. Nobody is ever stagnant. You're either moving forward, or you're being left behind, because the very fabric of life, that which life consists of and is measured by, that which your life is measured by, is always moving ahead.
Nobody is ever stagnant. You are either moving forward, or you are being left behind.
This is why I implore you to take action, take consistent, albeit tiny little actions, but always take action, and then make sure the actions that you are taking are relevant to that ideal person you see in your head that you want to become. Every action you take is either a vote for or against that person. The wrong actions are a vote against, while the right ones are a vote for your ideal person.
Always ensure you're taking the right actions, you're gaining traction and making progress, no matter how little. Learn to make specific goals that you are gunning for, as these goals will help you gain clarity as to which actions you should take.
Define your personal values, define your personal goals, define what you believe could be why you're a part of this earth. This will help you know what actions to take, and how to move forward. It will be like a compass to help you know if you're moving in the right direction, as moving in the right direction is twice as important as moving.
Jide asked me a few days ago though, which is better, moving in the wrong direction, or not moving at all? And I told him what I think, motion is always better. If you're moving in the wrong direction, it means you're making a mistake, and more often than not, it is better to make mistakes than to do absolutely nothing.
Motion is always better. Wrong or right. It is better to make mistakes than do absolutely nothing.
Never be caught in inaction.
When you make mistakes, you learn what doesn't work, you learn valuable lessons, and gain more experience than people who didn't move an inch. Then he asked again, what if the person who isn't moving is simply waiting? Maybe to hear a word from God, or just waiting for the right time?
I answered, "Waiting is completely different from inaction. In waiting, you should be taking action. In waiting, you are taking deliberate steps towards growth, physical growth, spiritual growth and mental growth. You have a goal you're gunning for, you're waiting for, waiting is preparing yourself to receive, and there is action in preparation."
This is the message in this newsletter. Never be caught in inaction. Not doing anything with the precious time you have in this moment, as even if your clock stops, time doesn't.
When someone asks you,"What are you doing?" You could be resting, or meditating, or sleeping, or processing ideas, or reading, or playing a game, or working out, or learning a skill, or connecting with a friend online, or keeping abreast with the happenings of the world on socials, just make sure you never be found doing nothing.
And do one better, ensure most of your actions, per time, are relevant to the person you are and want to become in the very core of your heart.
To your growth,
Abiola Okunsanya,
