It is the sweet, simple things of life which are the real ones after all.
β Laura Ingalls Wilder
Have you stepped back a little recently just to look around you? Did you notice that you are doing too much and this is causing you to burn out, but you don't seem to know what to drop?
You have availed yourself of too many options, too many tasks to do, that it has decreased your ability to make swift decisions, and also crowded your life so much that you are beginning to burn out.
There's just one simple cure, dear reader. Simplify your life. Yes, it is as simple as that sentence. Simplify your life, and you will start gaining more clarity than you never thought was possible.
We are in an age where everybody is running digital crazy. We are using more apps than we actually have need for. Shuffling and scuffing from one social media to another, from Clubhouse, to Twitter, to Slack, to WhatsApp, to Instagram, to Facebook, to LinkedIn, to Telegram, and the list goes on and on.
We think we need every single one of these things, when in fact, if we bring ourselves to an introspection, we will realize that 80% of our actual fulfilling work, fun, and productivity comes from only 20% of all of these digital apps that we use. It is called the 80/20 principle.
80% of our actual fulfilling work, fun, and productivity comes from only 20% of all of these digital apps that we use.
The 80/20 principle, also called Pareto principle states that 80% of consequences actually comes from 20% of causes.
Simply put, we do too much! We cause too much! It is true that we actually need to do a lot at first to figure out the 20%, but in many areas of our lives, the 20% is already evident, but we still grapple upon the overload that we aren't using.
A very quick test; check your phone's menu, you will discover that you don't use all the apps on your phone. This is the truth for everyone! In fact, if you're like me, you'd find some apps on your phone that you have never opened before, or maybe you've only ever opened once. Aha!
The same with your wardrobe. Clogged with too many options, so much that it took some people two hours just to decide on what to wear this morning. Yes, I'm talking to you. In truth, you know you only need 20% of all the stockpile
Simplify your life!
Stop giving yourself too many options to choose from, because too many options lead to decision paralysis. The same way, stop giving yourself too many things to do. Doing too much, more than is actually needed, leads to psychological and physical paralysis as well.
Too many options lead to decision paralysis. The same way, doing too much leads to psychological and physical paralysis.
This can actually apply to relationships as well. Too many friends, more than needed; too many romantic interests, more than needed, will also lead to emotional paralysis.
Simplify your life.
A study was done where a cookie seller availed more than 30 different options of cookies for people to buy on one day, and then on another day, the seller limited the options to just three different cookies.
The result? The seller sold more on the day she gave limited options than the day she had 30 options for buyers.
With three options, it was easier to choose, and therefore easier to buy.
Make your life easier. Simplify it. Stop doing too much. Stop doing everything. Stop giving yourself too many options.
Simplify your life.
Truth is, we are doing more than we actually need to do for live our peak. And we wonder why a lot is going on with us psychologically, and why we cannot get a grasp of our lives.
Take a step back and think about it. Chances are, you can cut every single thing you're doing right now, down to 20%, and you will still live fine and productively. You will have a lot more grasp over your life, and there will be chance to make traction in other areas that matter. Areas you have been neglecting.
You want to be free as a bird? You want to give yourself the chance to feel the fulfilment that you have been working for?
Look at your life and simplify it.
