Following all the rules leaves a completed checklist. Following your heart achieves a completed you.
- Ray A. Davis
How many times have you had to go on a path that you felt deeply in your heart wasn’t your path just because someone else who was seemingly better experienced thought it was the right path to follow?
How many times have you gotten to the end of that path only to realize that you should have just followed your heart instead and ignored the well-meaning individual with the foolish advice?
I am sure a couple of times.
If there's one thing that life has consistently taught, it's the fact that the heart almost always knows better than the head, and there are different realities and different paths for different people.
The heart almost always knows better than the head.
Good advice is key to living. One visionary I follow would always say, "Instruction is Life," and I completely agree. However, I also believe that not all instructions are timeless. Not all experiences and lessons from these experiences are relevant across all ages. Not all ancient landmarks should be standing erect today because they simply do not apply to this present age, and liberation comes when we begin to understand this.
Now I'm not saying we should rebel every time and just go ahead and do whatever we want, ignoring advice from experienced people, no. That'd be you playing on the cliff of your death.
What I am saying in this newsletter to you this week, is that not all instructions, traditions, landmarks, cultures, and rules should apply in your life today just because it was applied in the past and it worked. No!
I am also saying that oftentimes, our hearts can be against what seems like a piece of good advice from a well-meaning person. When this happens, we should never ignore our heart, because many times, our heart knows more than our head what will work for our life and our fulfillment. That it was good advice to an older and more experienced person doesn't mean it can't be foolish advice to you.
That it was good advice to an older and more experienced person doesn't mean it can't be foolish advice to you.
Instructions are meant to be followed, but they are only meant to be followed to the tune of how fulfilled and at peace they make you feel.
Cultures and traditions should never be eroded, but there are parts of the same cultures that should not be seeing the light of day in your life today.
Do not remove the ancient landmarks that your fathers have set, but if you don't remove a few that don't work and couldn't evolve with the times, how will you build new ones for your children to follow?
Rules are not followed by people who intend to rule the world. They are broken and then re-made. Yes, it is ironic, but the world is ruled by rulebreakers, and it will continue to be so.
It is ironic, but the world is ruled by rulebreakers.
Is this me saying you might never rule anything tangible if you don't break out of structures and rules that have been created by well-meaning people to keep you 'safe' and 'flourishing'? Well, yes!
To build something, you either have to break something or break out of something. To lead a life of dominion and become a father of many nations, you have to come out of your father's house. Take Abraham from the Scriptures as a case in point.
There's a balance to this though. That it is foolish advice, an archaic landmark that should be pulled down, a tradition you should abolish, or a structure you need to break out of does not mean you should not learn anything from it or throw away all you've learned from it in the past.
That you have been advised to break out of it doesn't mean you should fight out of it and burn bridges. Sometimes, you don't necessarily need to break down a landmark or abolish a tradition. Sometimes, what you need to do is to build a bridge across to the other side, or build another landmark right on top of it.
Don't stick with something just because it is old, or comes from an old and experienced person. Stick with it because it is working for you, growing you into who you want to become, and because you have peace in your heart about it.
Quit being afraid of pulling down what isn't working anymore. If Old isn't working for you, then chasing Old makes you stupid and keeps you at zero influence. Just delete. Ctrl + A + Backspace

Like I would always say, the fact that it is old doesn't make it true and it doesn't also mean that it can't be changed.
