You see, when I started having sense and taking my personal development seriously — some eight or nine years ago, one of the earliest ideas I heard and believed with all my heart was that nothing was by chance. Not the random meeting of the one who's to become your wife on a payment queue in a mall in Odeku, VI; not the school you went to; not the pain the friend you trusted caused; not the meal you ate today, nothing. Nothing is by chance.
More specifically, I believed that everything we get first hand, every person we meet first hand, every place we go, and every situation we find ourselves in have been orchestrated, either by a divine power or by our own direct action. This is going to be a very short newsletter.
I know people would argue that there are many forces in the universe, and these forces play hand in hand to bear the earth forth. These forces don't even know they are working together, that's why things appear so random, and I agree.
There are too many forces to count such that it would appear that there is no difference whether things have been orchestrated strategically, or whether our lives were the most random things ever. But we keep forgetting something.
Among these forces is ourselves and how we show up. While I argue that nothing happens by chance — and I strongly believe it, the single fact that you are a force, and that everything you do with what has happened or come to you by chance—or not by chance—lies largely in your control brings everything into perspective, that the life you have right now, right in this minute, is a collation of all the actions, decisions, thoughts, and education you have intentionally gathered.
The life you have right now, right in this minute, is a collation of all the actions, decisions, thoughts, and education you have intentionally gathered.
In short, controlling one factor in this equation called earth is the ingredient necessary control the outcome of the equation. And if you can control the outcome of the equation, then it means that nothing is by chance, but everything is by plan, process, and structure.
Perhaps you didn't have control over the cards that you've been dealt, you certainly can control how you play with the cards that you have been given. I strongly believe that the cards given to you are the exact cards your unique make up needs to make something significant out of your life, but it's fine if you don't believe that, because it doesn't matter regardless.
The cards given to you are the exact cards your unique make up needs to make something significant out of your life.
Whether you believe the cards given to you were unfair cards and it has made you disadvantaged when compared to the other players on the field of life, well, the main problem here would be the comparison, which in itself is flawed, because why then, do you not compare yourself with the people who have been dealt worse cards?
What you do with the cards life has given you; the people that you have met, the places you have been to, the things you have learned, the books you have read, the work you have done, the skills you have gathered, determines what comes out of your life, regardless of whether you think it was random or orchestrated.
My point is, nothing is by chance, not because you believe in some divine power who orchestrates things in your favor or you are an atheist who believes nothing, but because you are not by chance. What your life looks like right now is a result of the series of decisions you have taken since you realized you have the ability to make decisions over your life.
See? If your life is a total mess right now, if your relationships are in shambles right now, if your professional life is in disarray, and your environment is nothing to write home about, it's not because of the cards you've been dealt, divinely or by randomly. It is because of YOU!
If you want to fix everything too, it won't be about the cards either, but about what you decide today to start doing with them.
See? Nothing is by chance. Everything is by YOU. (stop reading here if you believe in nothing) And YOU are by God, the universe, and whatever you believe holds your life.
